NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Golf Digest has named the Yale Golf Course as one of
America's 100 Greatest Public Courses. YGC came in at No. 38 in the 2023 rankings, up eight spots from No. 46 the last time the course was ranked by the outlet.
This year alone, Links Magazine has named the course one of the Top 10 Connecticut Courses You Can Play in June and a Top-10 Co-Designed Course in the United States in April.
The historic greens set on the New Haven-based property became public in 2022 after years of being open only to members of the Yale University community and its members.
Peter Palacios, Jr. heads the supervision of the course as its general manager, while
Jeffrey Austin serves as the superintendent. They are joined by a grounds staff that helps to maintain the course throughout the year.
The Yale Golf Course was ranked No. 83 in the world by Golf Magazine in the fall of 2019 and has been recognized by many outlets as one of the finest collegiate courses in the nation. It has been the site of every significant state championship, two USGA Junior National events, and NCAA Regionals in 1991, 1995, 2004, 2010, 2015, and 2022. The course has also been the home of the Nike Connecticut Open. In 2022, it was the site of the NCAA Men's Golf Regional and was also named one of the best "classic" courses by Golfweek. Yale's course ranked No. 60 on the list of 200 best layouts built before 1960.
