Bulldogs Excel at River Hawk Invitational

BOSTON – The Yale men's track and field team enjoyed a successful day Saturday at the TRACK at new balance with exceptional leaps, jumps, throws and performances on the track. The Bulldogs continue to build week-in and week-out to improve on their performances as Heps draws nearer.

Over the 400 meters, it was an impressive race by Simon Jupp who broke the 50 second barrier winning his heat. Jupp was pushed all the way by Andrew Farr, who opened up his season Saturday. Colin Quinn continued his standout season, running the second-quickest time in the 500 meters Saturday in a blistering 1:03 that puts him into the top 10 all-time at Yale.

Over the 200 meters, Jacob Kao placed second in his heat breaking the 22 second barrier, and looks set to have a fantastic season ahead. Kit Colson also placed second in his heat over the 200 meters, just outside his PR that he set last weekend. The Bulldogs rounded off the action on the track in style as they dominated the competition over the 4x400 meters with a team consisting of Kao, Quinn, Farr and Aaron Miller. They ran 3:14.30, just missing Yale's top 10 list. This performance bodes well for the season ahead as they continue to improve.

In the throws the Bulldogs were led home by captain Matt Appel, who placed third in the invitational weight throw just outside a PR. First year Nathan Lebowitz threw a new PR of 15.85 meters as he continued his solid indoor campaign. Jake Sun had a solid day out as he improved upon his throws from last week. Appel returned for the shot put, placing fourth.

In the long jump, it was a closely contested battle between Brian Di Bassinga, Andrew Fu and Cristian Pereira with Di Bassinga just edging Pereira to jump 6.37 meters. Di Bassinga returned for the triple jump, leaping 14.21 in what was a busy day for him.

Notes:
  • In addition to Saturday's competition at the River Hawk Invitational, Yale also sent three runners to the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge Friday at the Armory in New York City. In the 5k, Sean Kay (14:09.56, fourth), Kenan Pala (14:15.95, sixth) and Varun Oberai (14:31.35, eighth) all scored, with Kay and Pala establishing PRs.

Up next:
  • The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend in Boston. The team is split between the Crimson Elite meet at Harvard and the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational hosted by Boston University.
