LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Owen Karas (5K) and junior Nathan Lebowitz (discus) of the Yale men's track and field team competed at the NCAA East First Round meet Friday at Kentucky. 
 
Lebowitz placed 38th in the discus Friday afternoon with a mark of 51.92m. He concludes this season having moved into fifth on Yale's all-time list in the event with his mark of 54.71m at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 16. He was one of four Ivy Leaguers to make it to the NCAA East First Round in the discus.
 
Karas competed in the 5K Friday night, finishing 39th with a time of 14:25.37. He had set the school record in that event earlier this year with his time of 13:47.74 at the Wake Forest Invitational Apr. 17. Karas was one of six Ivy Leaguers to compete in the 5K at the NCAA East First Round.
 
Karas also owns the school record in the 1500m outdoors (3:37.52), the mile indoors (3:58.37), the 3000m indoors (7:51.68) and the 5000m indoors (13:51.46). 
 
Earlier at the NCAA East First Round meet, senior Nolan Recker competed in the hammer throw on Wednesday.
 
Twelve from each event at the NCAA East First Round earned spots in the NCAA Championships, set for June 10 and 12 at Oregon's Hayward Field.
