Jordan, Pantelis Have Career Days; Bulldogs Best Brown

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale football team improved to 2-3 in the Ivy League and 5-3 overall with a 56-34 victory over Brown on Heroes Day at the Yale Bowl. The Bulldogs' 56 points were the most scored by the team since a 69-17 victory over Brown on Nov. 5, 2022.

Key Player
  • Yale's Grant Jordan played a flawless game from the quarterback position, going 29-40 for 372 yards and six touchdowns. He also recorded one more touchdown on the ground.
  • Yale wide receiver David Pantelis had a career day, recording 12 catches for 195 yards and three touchdowns, all three coming in the first quarter.
  • In his second game back from injury, Yale defensive back Brandon Webster picked off two Bear passes, two of four turnovers forced by the Bulldog defense.

Turning Point
  • After Pantelis' second touchdown late in the first quarter to make the score 14-7 Yale, Brown looked to respond with a drive of its own. On the second play of the drive, Yale defensive lineman Alvin Gulley Jr. tipped a pass from Brown quarterback Jake Willcox that was immediately intercepted by Webster.
  • On the very first play of the ensuing Yale drive, Jordan found Pantelis again from 29 yards out to make it 21-7. The Bulldogs never led by less than 14 points the rest of the afternoon.

Bulldog Bytes
  • Wide receiver Mason Shipp recorded his first career multi-touchdown game in a five-catch performance.
  • Tight end Ryan Belk caught his first career touchdown, a 14-yard grab from Jordan in the second quarter.
  • Linebacker Inumidun Ayo-Durojaiye's 12 total tackles were a season-high for the senior.
  • The last time a Yale quarterback threw for six touchdowns came on Nov. 19, 2019 when Kurt Rawlings did so in a 51-14 win at Princeton.
  • With that, Jordan also tied the Yale single-game touchdown passing record held by Kurt Rawlings against Princeton in 2019.
  • Grant Jordan became just the fifth Ivy League quarterback in history to record six passing touchdowns in a single game.
  • Running back Tre Peterson paced the Bulldogs on the ground, including a 44-yard rushing touchdown to ice the game in the fourth quarter.
  • The last time Yale scored 50 points in a game was on Nov. 5, 2022 against Brown where they scored 69 points.

Hear from Coach Reno
"I woke up on Sunday morning, really excited for where we could go," said Tony Reno, Joel E. Smilow '54 Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "That might sound crazy, but I know these guys, and I know what they're made of, and what they can do is pretty special. We chase elite. If someone hands us a trophy, that's great, but that's not the goal. The goal for us is to be an elite team, and there's so many different ways to do it."

Looking Ahead
Yale will close out its 2024 home schedule on Saturday, Nov. 16 with a noon match up against Princeton. The Bulldogs hope to extend a two-game winning streak against the Tigers.
