Yale Hosts Fordham, Travels to FIU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's basketball team hosts Fordham Wednesday (6:00 p.m., ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats, Tickets) and then travels to Florida International Saturday (1:00 p.m., ESPN+, Live Stats, Tickets).
 
Last Week
Yale (1-8, 0-0 Ivy League) dropped three road games last week, falling at Marist Tuesday, at Bryant Friday and at Syracuse Sunday. Senior guard/forward Mackenzie Egger (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) led the team in scoring for the week, averaging 21.0 points per game. She also averaged a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game.
 
Defending the Perimeter
Yale ranks third nationally in three-point percentage defense. The Bulldogs have limited their opponents to a .182 shooting performance beyond the arc, trailing only Bradley (.168) and Illinois (.180).
 
Welcome Back
Wednesday marks Yale's first home game since Nov. 24. The Bulldogs played three straight road games in that span, and after Wednesday the Bulldogs will not be home again until Dec. 29.
 
Egger Among National, Ivy Leaders
Senior guard/forward Mackenzie Egger (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) is sixth in the nation in rebounds (92) and 25th in the nation in rebounds per game (10.2). Within the Ivy League, Egger ranks sixth in points per game (16.6). She is the only Ivy Leaguer who is averaging double digits in both points and rebounds. She is also fifth in the league in blocks per game (0.9) and steals per game (1.8). 
 
Chapman Among the Best Ivy First Years on the Boards
First-year guard Marisa Chapman (Middletown, N.Y.) is third among Ivy League first years in rebounds per game (6.0). Only Penn's Katie Collins (7.3) and Dartmouth's Olivia Austin (6.6) are averaging more.

Yale has a pair of players from Florida:
  • Senior guard Christen McCann (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) played for Lincoln Park Academy, where she was second team all-state and a three-year captain. She was a McDonald's All-American nominee in 2021.
  • First-year guard Ciniya Moore (Bradenton, Fla.) played for IMG Academy, where she was Defensive Player of the Year on the IMG National Team in 2023. Prior to playing for IMG she was at The-Out-of-Door Academy, where she helped the team to a district championship in 2020.
 
Scouting Fordham
Fordham (4-3, 0-0 Atlantic 10) has won three of its last four games, allowing more than 56 points just once in that span (65 points in a loss at Manhattan Nov. 20). The Rams have three players averaging 9.0 points per game or better, led by guard Taylor Donaldson (16.4 ppg).
 
Scouting FIU
FIU (2-5, 0-0 Conference USA), which just split a pair of games at the FIU Thanksgiving Classic, went 21-12 last season and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. Forward Mya Koné was named the CUSA Preseason Player of the Year but has played in just one game, the season opener. FIU is 19th in the nation in turnovers forced per game (24.57).
