No. 16 Bulldogs Visit No. 4 BC, Host No. 7 Penn this Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 16 Yale women's lacrosse team is 9-0 for the first time since starting the 1995 season 9-0. The Bulldogs face a challenging week with games against two nationally ranked opponents. They visit No. 4 Boston College Wednesday (2:00 p.m. *NOTE TIME CHANGE*, ACCNX, Live Stats) and host No. 7 Penn Sunday in a nationally televised game (4:00 p.m., ESPNU, ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats).

Last Game
Yale (9-0, 3-0 Ivy League) beat Brown 10-5 this past Saturday at Reese Stadium. Yale held Brown – which came into the game averaging 17.5 goals per game (third nationally) – scoreless for the first 21:58. That enabled the Bulldogs to build a 4-0 lead. Brown got no closer than within two the rest of the way.

Taking the Lead
Since rallying from an early 2-0 deficit at Dartmouth Mar. 24, Yale has not trailed in its last 109:35.

Not Even Close
In winning all nine games to start the season, Yale has trailed in the fourth quarter only once: in the season opener, when the Bulldogs rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat Stanford. They have led throughout the fourth quarter of every other game – and in five of those eight games the opponent never got closer than within six goals of Yale in the fourth.

Here is the complete list:

Stanford Trailed by 3 w/14:16 left  W, 13-12

Yale's Longest Winning Streaks
The Bulldogs' nine-game winning streak is the team's longest since 2007, when the team won the final nine regular seasons games in a row (Mar. 21, 2007 through Apr. 21, 2007) en route to earning an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament. Here are the longest streaks in school history:
  • 13 games Apr. 25, 1994 through Apr. 12, 1995
  • 12 games Apr. 24, 1995 through Apr. 6, 1996
  • 12 games Apr. 23, 1977 through Apr. 15, 1978
  • 9 games Feb. 17, 2024 through Mar. 30, 2024
  • 9 games Mar. 21, 2007 through Apr. 21, 2007

RPI and the Ivy League
Here are the Ivy League teams in the latest RPI rankings from the NCAA:
2. Penn
7. Yale
18. Princeton
22. Brown
25. Dartmouth
26. Harvard
40. Cornell
85. Columbia

The ACC and the Ivy League are the only conferences with five or more teams ranked in the top 25 of the RPI.

Undefeated
With previously unbeaten No. 5 Michigan's 8-6 loss to No. 2 Maryland this past Saturday, Yale is now the only unbeaten NCAA Division I women's lacrosse team in the nation.

National Winning Streaks
Yale is one of three teams nationally with a winning streak of nine or more games:
  • No. 10 Florida 11 in a row
  • No. 25 Fairfield 9 in a row
  • No. 16 Yale 9 in a row
The teams have a common thread. Florida head coach Amanda O'Leary was Yale's head coach from 1994 through 2007. Erica Bamford, Yale's Joel E. Smilow Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse, served as an assistant for O'Leary at Florida for seven years. Laura Field, Fairfield's head coach, served as an assistant at Yale when O'Leary coached the Bulldogs.

Running the Gauntlet
Four of Yale's next five opponents are either ranked or receiving votes in the ILWomen/IWLCA Poll:

  • Apr. 7: No. 7 Penn
  • Apr. 13: No. 24 Harvard
  • Apr. 20: at Cornell
  • Apr. 22: vs. No. 13 Denver (at Saint Joseph's)

The highest-ranked team that the Bulldogs have beaten in the last two seasons was then-No. 14 Army Apr. 4, 2023.
