SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – It didn't come easily, but the Yale women's crew retained the Cayuga Cup. The varsity eight edged Syracuse in a tight race. The Bulldogs finished in 6:15.03, less than a second faster than Syracuse (6:15.72). Cornell (6:43.69) was a distant third.
In all, Yale won four of the five races. The second varsity eight posted an impressive victory, finishing with a time of 6:24.08, more than 10 seconds faster than Syracuse (6:36.15). The Big Red finished in 7:00.42.
The Orange won the varsity four, edging Yale 7:06.09 to 7:08.0 with Cornell third in 7:48.92.
The Bulldogs also had convincing victories in the third varsity eight (6:31.08) and second varsity four (7:20.07).
"Syracuse was exactly what we expected them to be," said
Will Porter, The Friends of YWC Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We were lucky to get out of there with the win. The second varsity rowed a great race and grew up on the race course a bit today, while the four lost a close one. Our 2V4 and 3V were dominant. Overall, it was a good day for YWC."
