WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Yale lightweight varsity and JV crews finished their national championship regatta weekend with races in the Petite and Grand Finals, respectively, on Sunday morning at Lake Mercer.
The Yale JV took on a competitive field consisting of Harvard, Penn, Cornell, Navy, Dartmouth and Princeton in a 9:50 a.m. Grand Final. Competing from an outside lane, the Bulldogs stuck with the pack through a quick first 500m, but fell behind in the middle 1000m, eventually taking seventh overall. The Harvard Crimson took gold, with Penn following close behind for silver and Cornell beating out Navy for bronze.
The 10:30 a.m. lightweight varsity Petite Final was a dual race between Yale and MIT. The Engineers took the lead within the first 500m and held off strong moves from the Bulldogs in the middle stages of the race to stretch their lead to about a length by the finish line. The Yale varsity finished as the eighth-fastest lightweight crew in the nation, with Harvard finishing first overall, followed by Princeton and Penn.
