No. 16 Bulldogs Earn Spot in NCAA Tourney for First Time, Will Face No. 2 Northwestern

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the first time in school history, the No. 16 Yale field hockey team has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA announced the bracket Sunday night. 
  • The Bulldogs will open with a first-round game against No. 2 Northwestern, the defending national champions, at Virginia Friday at 2:30 p.m.
  • The Bulldogs' section of the bracket also includes a first-round game between No. 4 Virginia and Miami (Ohio).
  • The winners of Friday's games will play Sunday to determine who advances to the semifinal round.
 
Yale is 12-5 overall, tied for the third-most wins in school history. The Bulldogs are coming off their first Ivy League Tournament appearance, having fallen to No. 5 Princeton in the semifinals this past Friday.
 
All first- and second-round games of the NCAA Tournament will be streamed on ESPN+. 
 
Tickets for the games at Virginia go on sale Monday at 9:00 a.m. and are $10.  Tickets for the first round include admission to both games on Friday.  Seating is general admission, first-come, first-served.  Fans can purchase tickets at uvatix.com or by calling the ticket office at 434-924-8821. Fans are encouraged to purchase in advance to expedite the entry process.
 
Parking will be $10 in advance or $15 per vehicle drive-up.
 
The NCAA Tournament includes 18 teams. The first and second rounds, and two opening round games on Wednesday, are hosted by the top four seeds.
 
The four seeded teams are:
  1. North Carolina (ACC)
  2. Princeton (Ivy League)
  3. Harvard (Ivy League)
  4. Virginia (ACC)
The NCAA semifinals and championship game will be played on Friday, Nov. 21 (12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.) and Sunday, Nov. 23 (1:00 p.m.) at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium on the campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. All three of those games will be televised on ESPNU.
