Last Game
Yale won its second straight game Saturday,
beating Rider 53-52 at Alumni Gymnasium. With Yale trailing 52-51, sophomore guard
Marisa Chapman (Middletown, N.Y.) drew a foul with 7.4 seconds left and went to the line, where she calmly swished two free throws. Chapman then disrupted Rider's final possession to help seal the win.
Homecoming for the Captain
This past Saturday's game was a homecoming for Yale senior forward
Kiley Capstraw (West Orange, N.J.). Capstraw played for West Orange High, where she helped the team win its first Essex County Championship in 2019. She was a McDonald's All-American Games nominee in 2022 and was Super Essex Conference Player of the Year in 2021. The Bulldogs practiced at her alma mater Friday. Capstraw's mother, Chelsea, played for Rider.
Block Party
With nine blocks vs. Rider last Wednesday and at American on Nov. 26, Yale is the only Ivy League team to have blocked nine or more shots in a game twice this season.
Free Throw Excellence
Yale has shot .800 or better from the free throw line five times in the season's first 10 games.
Battling on the Boards
Yale has cracked the 40 rebound mark twice in the last four games, including a season high of 44 at American Nov. 26.
Connecticut Connection
While no Yale players are from Connecticut (Monday's opponent, the University of New Haven, has three), one played high school ball in the Constitution State. Sophomore guard
Ke'iara Odume (Syracuse, N.Y.) played at Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn. There, she was the NEPSAC Player of the Year in 2023-24 and helped the team to three consecutive NEPSAC Class A Championships along with two consecutive Founders League Championships.
Connecticut's Newest Division I Team
New Haven, which had been a Division II school, is beginning its transition to NCAA Division I and the NEC during the 2025-26 academic year. The Chargers will attain full Division I membership in 2028-29 following the NCAA-mandated reclassification period.
Scouting New Haven
New Haven (2-6, 0-0 NEC) has wins over a pair of DIII opponents, Bard College and Purchase College. The Chargers' closest games against DI opponents were seven-point losses at Xavier (53-46 on Nov. 4) and vs. BU (65-58 on Nov. 15). Last year they were an at-large selection for the NCAA DII National Championship Tournament after going 17-10.
