MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Yale men's and women's fencing teams competed at the NCAA Northeast Regionals at Tufts University on Sunday.
On the men's side, 11 Yale athletes competed. First year
Castor Kao was the Bulldogs' top performer in foil, finishing fourth overall.
Tony Whelan and
Konstantin Vaysbukh recorded top-10 finishes in epee, placing ninth and 10th respectively.
Jordan Silberzweig finished seventh in saber.
Nine athletes on the women's side competed at regionals.
Anya Mehrotra put forth a strong performance in epee, placing seventh.
Michelle Lee finished right behind her in eighth place.
For a student-athlete to compete at their respective regional, they must compete in a minimum of 21 bouts, as well as achieve at least a 25-percent win-loss percentage in scheduled bouts. For the Northeast Regional at Tufts, the NCAA Fencing Committee has issued a total of 23 berths to the NCAA Championships - eight epee, seven foil and eight saber. Additionally, two at-large selections will be made nationally in each weapon. The field for the national championships will be officially announced on Tuesday, March 11.
The 2025 NCAA Fencing Championships will be held March 20-23 at Penn State University.
