NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Harry Geffen and
John Patton of the Yale heavyweight crew team have been named Empacher-Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) All-Americans, while 16 Bulldogs earned Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athlete recognition.
IRCA All-American Honors
To be considered for All-American honors, student-athletes must:
- Meet all institutional eligibility requirements
- Compete in their team's varsity boat during the spring season
- Be nominated by their institution
- Have a head coach in good standing with the IRCA
Selections—First Team, Second Team, or Honorable Mention—are made by the IRCA Board based on:
- Varsity boat's final placement
- Nomination rank within the institution
- Coach's comments, individual performance, and erg score
Geffen earned First Team honors after competing in Yale's first varsity boat throughout the season. Patton was named to the Second Team, also racing in Yale's 1V alongside Geffen. It marks the second consecutive All-America honor for the captain, while Patton earns the distinction for the first time as a sophomore.
IRCA Scholar Athletes
Sixteen members of the Yale heavyweight crew were named Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athletes:
- Seniors: Marcus Emmett, Harry Geffen, Jakov Bijelic, William Sharis, Matthew Hansen, Luca Liautaud, Alexander McClean, Thomas Allen, Yaroslav Mikhaylov
- Juniors: Stewart Fuqua, Zac Day, Ben Heathcote
- Sophomores: Ulrik Lohne, Nate Ly, Max Peel, Aahana Mehta-Vasisht
To qualify, student-athletes must:
- Be in at least their second year of eligibility
- Compete in their program's top three boats or race at the IRA Championship
- Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 through the fall semester
