NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's track and field team competed at a pair of meets Saturday, wrapping up competition at Texas A&M's 44 Farms Team Invitational and starting competition at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic.
At the 44 Farms Team Invitational, first-year
Constanza Acevedo provided a highlight by breaking her own school record in the javelin. Acevedo's mark of 46.21m bested her mark of 45.92m from last month at UCF's Black & Gold Challenge. She has now broken the school record in each of her first two meets for the Bulldogs. Acevedo placed sixth at A&M; Rice's McKyla Van der Westhuizen, a three-time All-American in this event, won with a mark of 56.95m.
Also at A&M, junior
Juliette Kosmont placed fourth in the 100m (11.40). Texas A&M's Camryn Dickson, a second team All-American in this event last year, won with a time of 11.02.
Junior
Lucija Grd also competed in the 100m at A&M (finishing 27th, 11.85), but first she competed in the 100m hurdles. In that event, Grd placed fifth with a time of 13.51. The wind reading of +3.0 kept her from breaking her own school record (13.80). Texas A&M's Jaiya Covington, a first team All-American in this event last year, won with a time of 12.85.
Juniors
Gloria Guerrier and
Victoria Guerrier competed at A&M Saturday as well, placing 22nd and 28th respectively in the 400m. Gloria's time was 54.79 and Victoria's was 56.03.
A larger group of Bulldogs began competition at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic Saturday. Highlights of day one there included a third-place finish in the high jump by first-year
Penelope Webb (1.65m). Yale got fifth-place finishes from first-year
Phoebe Benun (16:22.98 in the 5000m, 10th on Yale's all-time list) and
Zoe Martonfi (4:25.17 in the 1500m).
The Bulldogs conclude competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Sunday.
