NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following a pair of strong performances, Yale women's soccer first-year goalkeeper Isabel Willems was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon. The honor marks the first weekly award of Willems' career and Yale's first of the season.
 
Willems delivered a standout week in net for the Bulldogs, continuing a strong start to her collegiate career. She's started all four games for Yale this season and turned in another impressive pair of performances this week. On Thursday, Willems recorded her second shutout of the season in a victory over Northeastern. She followed that showing with a career-high nine saves on Sunday against No. 13 Virginia, including a penalty-kick save and a stop on a breakaway attempt, keeping the Bulldogs within striking distance in a close loss to the nationally ranked Cavaliers.
 
Willems and the Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 3, hosting Hofstra. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
