NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Matthew Jessen, who won the 2025 Skyline Conference championship as the head coach of Manhattanville women's volleyball, has joined the Yale volleyball staff as an assistant coach.

Jessen comes to New Haven after spending the 2025-26 athletic year as the head coach of Manhattanville women's and men's volleyball, going a combined 20-5 in Skyline Conference play and coaching the conference's women's player and rookie of the year. 

His men's team reached the Skyline Conference finals for the first time in program history, with two players earning all-conference honors. 

Prior to his time at Manhattanville, Jessen served as an assistant coach at Sacred Heart University in 2024. He also coached at programs such as NOVA Volleyball, Quinnipiac Club Volleyball and Fairfield Ludlowe High School from 2021 to 2023. 

"We're excited to have Matt join our team," head coach Erin Appleman said. 

Jessen graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in history in 2023.
