OMAHA, Neb. – The Yale men's soccer team dropped a road contest to the University of Nebraska at Omaha on Thursday evening. The Mavericks topped the Bulldogs 6-0, scoring once on a penalty kick and five more times in the second half with Yale down a man due to a red card.
With the victory, Omaha improved to 3-1-2 overall. Yale dropped to 1-3 overall.
"Despite the final score, I am genuinely proud of the group for the effort and mentality they had after going down a man after a really poor call," said
Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "The final score is not indicative of the performance and it's the most unfair score line I've ever been part of in my career."
"We hit two posts that could have changed the game and missed a couple other chances we do need to do better with, but it wasn't for a lack of creating the chances, even after we were down a man," Stannard said. "The other team also could have had a man sent off when they stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity from us, but was somehow ruled a drop ball. We did run out of gas at the end after trying to fight back into the game, so I give absolutely no merit to the final few minutes of the game, including their fourth goal that should have stood as offside."

"The best thing about a tough loss is when you have another quick game and we can put this behind us to prepare for Creighton," Stannard said.
Returning to his Roots
Coach Stannard will return to his alma mater as an opposing coach. Stannard played at Creighton for four seasons, graduating in 2001. With the Bluejays, Stannard made an NCAA Final Four appearance and won 60 games throughout his span as a student-athlete.
