FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Yale men's golf team opened the 2026-27 season with a team title at the Doc Gimmler Invitational on Long Island.

The two-day, three-round event was shortened to 36 holes after inclement weather halted play. The Bulldogs held a commanding lead through two rounds, shooting even par in the opening round before firing a 13-under-par second round to secure the team title.

"I am incredibly proud of our performance this week," said Keith Tyburski, head coach of men's golf. "We got off to a slow start in the first round but really fought hard and responded with a great team performance in the afternoon round."

Team Highlights

• Yale finished the tournament at 13-under-par, highlighted by its 13-under performance in the second round. Five Bulldogs finished inside the top 15 individually, including four in the top 11.

Individual Highlights

A pair of first years making their collegiate debuts helped lead the way for the Bulldogs with top-two finishes.

• Theodore Snyder earned the individual title in his first collegiate tournament, finishing atop the leaderboard at seven-under-par. After shooting one-under in the opening round, Snyder carried his strong play into round two, opening with three straight birdies en route to a six-under-par. "Theo is an incredible player. His enthusiasm and energy are contagious. Winning the first event of your career is a tremendous accomplishment," said Tyburski.
• First year Shawn Nawata also had an impressive debut, tying for second at four-under-par. Nawata recorded rounds of 69 and 67, including three straight birdies on holes two, three and four during the second round.

First year Austin Le also posted a strong outing and finished tied for 11th at even par, highlighted by a second round that featured an eagle-birdie stretch on the front nine.

The returners also posted a pair of top-20 finishes. Junior Colin Li tied for 11th at even par and recorded three consecutive birdies during his opening round. Junior Matthew Lin finished tied for 15th at one-over-par, birdieing holes 16 and 17 late in the opening round to lower Yale's team score before adding a birdie on No. 18 in the final round of play.
