Bulldogs Outshoot Crimson 7-3 In Second
Half
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The start of Ivy League play
didn't bring an end to the frustration for the Yale
men's soccer team. The Bulldogs gave defending Ivy champion
Harvard all it could handle but dropped a 1-0 decision on a
beautiful afternoon at Ohiri Field. Scott Prozeller scored the only
goal of the game midway through the first half.
Both teams had 11 shots in the game. Yale had a 7-3 edge in the
second half but couldn't get the equalizer.
It was the sixth one-goal loss of the season for the Bulldogs
(1-8-1, 0-1 Ivy).
"It was a typical Yale-Harvard soccer game," said
Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "Both teams played hard and
didn't give much ground. There weren't a lot of
clear-cut chances for either team."
The Crimson (3-3-3, 1-0 Ivy) took advantage of an opportunity at
the 30-minute mark. Jaren LaGreca sent a cross into the left side
of the box that Prozeller headed into the right side of the
net.
The Bulldogs had a couple of near misses in the second half.
Eric Meyer curled a shot that went just wide
midway through the half, and Kevin Peterson fired
a shot that just barely went over the crossbar a few minutes
later.
"We had some chances in the second half that could have
brought us back," Tompkins said.
Bobby Thalman made three saves in goal for
Yale. Austin Harms stopped one shot to earn the shutout for the
Crimson.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next Saturday when they play
at Dartmouth. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
