NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale's final non-league game of
2010 brings an unfamiliar opponent to Reese Stadium. Lehigh, which
is battling for the top seed in the Patriot League Tournament,
hasn't come to New Haven since 1995. The Bulldogs and
Mountain Hawks meet on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Yale (2-10-1) is coming off a hard-fought 2-0 loss to
15th-ranked Penn on Saturday. The game was even for the
first 67 minutes until the Quakers scored twice in an 11-minute
stretch to escape with the win. Andy Shorten
continues to lead the Bulldogs with three goals. Andy
Hackbarth has scored twice, both on penalty kicks.
Bobby Thalman has started all 13 games in goal and
has a 1.35 goals against average. Thalman, though, was issued a red
card when it was ruled he deliberately tripped a Penn player in the
box on Saturday. As a result, he won't be able to play
against the Mountain Hawks.
Lehigh (7-5-2) has won three straight
games, including a 2-1 victory over American on Saturday. Cameron
Omsberg was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on
Monday. Omsberg helped anchor a strong defensive effort which
allowed only a single goal in two games last week. Playing out of
position at center-back, Omsberg led Lehigh to a 1-0 win over NJIT
on Tuesday and the victory over American. The Mountain Hawks
allowed only seven total shots on goal in those two games. Joe
Puleo leads the Hawks with four goals.
Yale has won both meetings with Lehigh
– 2-1 in 1995 and 5-1 in 1996.
