Box Score Rudnick Moves Up to 2nd All-Time Digs List
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs pushed their winning streak to four with a win over Cornell on Friday night.
Seven different Bulldogs had at least one kill in the win over the Big Red. The scores of the match were 25-16, 25-17 and 25-14.
In addition to the Yale (9-6. 5-1 Ivy) victory, Princeton lost to give the Bulldogs sole possession of first place in the Ivy standings.
Kelly Johnson led all hitters with nine kills and hit .400, while Kaitlyn Gibbons had seven kills and hit .376. Claire Feeley hit .333 with five kills.
"I thought Kelly, Kaitlyn and Claire all played well," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said. "It was nice to get a win at home."
Maddie Rudnick moved up the all-time digs list at Yale. Rudnick had 10 digs, passed Anja Perlebach (2003-06) to rank second all-time with 1,382 digs. Perleback had 1,380.
Maya Midzik went back to back with kills to give Yale a 9-7 lead in the first set, then Kelsey Crawford added another. Crawford had 25 assists tonight.
Yale increased its largest lead, 21-12 after a kill from Claire Feeley followed by block assists from Midzik and Johnson.
Johnson started a second-set run to create distance between the two teams. With the Bulldogs up 9-6, Johnson deposited a kill. Johnson then took the ball and served up two aces during a 4-0 run that included a kill from Mollie Rogers.
Gibbons had three kills among Yale's first four points in the third set. After Cornell cut the deficit to 5-4, Yale scored four straight points on a kills from Rogers, Feeley and two from Johnson. The Big Red didn't get any closer than four points the rest of the set.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow to host Columbia at 5 p.m.
