Bulldogs Add NCAA Champion Jordan Hopp to Coaching Staff

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Jordan Hopp, who won a NCAA National Championship in 2024 as a student-athlete and served as a team captain at both Penn State and Iowa State, has been named the assistant volleyball coach at Yale.

"Jordan brings not only a wealth of playing experience at the highest level, but also a proven leadership ability and winning mentality to our program," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said.  "And being a recent student-athlete, Jordan will immediately connect with our players."

In addition to winning a national title and a Big Ten championship in 2024 as a redshirt senior, Hopp averaged 1.00 block per set in the regional final victory over No.6 Creighton and the national semifinal against No. 3 Nebraska.  In 2025, Hopp led Penn State in blocks per set while hitting .310 with 125 kills and 12 service aces as a grad student.

Prior to Penn State, Hopp played at Iowa State and started all 30 matches, hit .325 with 199 kills and added 104 blocks in 2023 as a redshirt junior.  Hopp at Iowa State also tied for the third-highest solo block match total in program history and earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

"I'm incredibly honored to join Yale University and become part of such a respected and tradition-rich volleyball program," said Hopp.  "Yale has already established itself as a competitive force, and what excites me most is the immense potential to keep building on that success. The culture here is rooted in excellence—both on the court and in the classroom—and I'm eager to contribute to an environment where student-athletes can thrive, compete at the highest level, and continue pushing this program forward. I truly believe the future is very bright for Yale volleyball."

Hopp also served as a club-level assistant coach at the Happy Valley Academy in State College, Pa. and led positional training emphasizing blocking technique and attacking efficiency.  In addition, Hopp coached summer camps at both Penn State and Iowa State.
