No. 41 Dartmouth Records 4-0 Victory over Bulldogs
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In its last home match of the season, the Yale men's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 41 Dartmouth on Friday. The Big Green snatched the doubles point before sealing the triumph with three singles wins. The defeat marks Yale's fourth loss of the Ivy League season and its fifth loss at home this season. The Bulldogs currently rank at seventh place in the conference standings, just in front of Brown.
In doubles, Dartmouth fielded the No. 30 team of Cameron Ghorbani and Brendan Tennebaum at the No. 1 spot. Ghorbani and Tennebaum opened proceedings with an 8-2 win over Yale's top duo of freshman Tyler Lu and sophomore Martin Svenning. The Big Green then secured the doubles point with a victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Elis continued to fight hard in singles play, but Dartmouth met Yale's resistance and finished off the overall victory with wins at the bottom three singles spots. The Bulldogs were competitive in the three matches that went unfinished. At the No. 1 spot, Lu, ranked No. 105 in the nation, had just narrowly lost the first set when the match was called. At No. 2 singles, Svenning bounced back after a tough opener to even his match at one set apiece. And at the No. 3 position, junior Daniel Faierman held a commanding lead at 6-4, 4-1, when played ended.
The win moves Dartmouth into a tie at No. 2 in the Ivy League standings with No. 34 Harvard, the Bulldogs' opponent on Sunday. Yale will hit the road to renew its famous rivalry with the Crimson. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Harvard's home venue.
