Nolan Scores Bulldogs' Goal

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Harvard scored three times in the second half to pull away from Yale in the Ivy League field hockey opener Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field, beating the Bulldogs 4-1. Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Nolan scored Yale's goal.

Harvard's defense limited Yale to just five shots for the game, and Crimson goalkeeper Issy Davies made two saves. The Crimson has allowed just five goals in its first five games this season, and is now 5-0 for the first time since 1976.

Crimson forward Catriona McDonald scored the only goal of the first half, putting her team ahead with a one-timer at 17:08. Forward Marisa Balleza then made it 2-0 Harvard with her fourth goal of the year at 44:07.

Nolan forced a turnover and tucked the ball inside the far post to break up Davies' shutout bid with 16:50 remaining, but Harvard scored the final two goals of the game to put it out of reach. Forward Kaitlyn Boudah and back Elizabeth Jacobson scored in the final 10 minutes to make it 4-1.

Senior goalkeeper Heather Schlesier made five saves for the Bulldogs.

Yale (1-4, 0-1 Ivy League) plays at Boston U. on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
