Bulldogs Control Play But Fall 1-0 At Central Connecticut

Yale Outshoots Blue Devils 14-9

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Yale was in control from the start Tuesday at Central Connecticut. The Bulldogs had seven of the game's first eight shots and maintained the better of the play for virtually the entire game.

One moment, though, doomed Yale. Louis Beddouri capitalized on one of the Blue Devils' few scoring chances to notch the only goal of the game with 9:43 left in the second half to lift CCSU to a 1-0 victory.

"This was a cruel result tonight, and there is no other way to put it," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We dominated this game for 90 minutes and had multiple chances to not only score one but to score multiple goals. We put ourselves into so many good positions tonight with open looks at goal, and if our shots had simply been on target in this game, it could have been 3-0 after the first 15 minutes, let alone, the even better chances we had in the second half."

Yale finished with a 14-9 edge in shots and a greater margin in high-quality opportunities.

"I'm devastated for our players because they played their tails off for 90 minutes," Stannard said. "We talked about being relentless on both sides of the ball and we did that from start to finish.  The guys played great and I'm very proud of their effort."

Freshman Kyle Kenagy paced the Bulldogs with five shots.

Goalkeepers Ben LaVallee and Carson D'Ambrosio combined to make three saves to post the shutout for Central.

Yale has two Ivy League games remaining this fall – Saturday against Brown in the home finale at 7 p.m. and Nov. 14 at Princeton.

"The soccer Gods are not being good to us right now and I'm not sure when our hard work will pay off, but I absolutely know that time will come and these tough times will make us appreciate that even more," Stannard said.
