ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Yale women's sailing team handily won the Women's Navy Spring Intersectional Regatta hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy this weekend. The Bulldogs sailed into first place and kept the lead by thinking on their feet and racing consistently, even in the shifty breeze.
Sophomore skipper Casey Klingler and senior crew Emily Johnson placed first in A division, beating out many of the best sailors on the college circuit.
In B division, senior skipper Marly Isler and freshman crew Kira Woods placed a close second with a mere 20 points. They finished out of the top 5 in just one race.
Only five races were completed due to the lack of wind all day Saturday and in the morning on Sunday. On Sunday, the cross-river breeze filled in around noon and built steadily throughout the afternoon. The No. 3 Bulldogs completed the regatta with an impressive 11 point lead.
After a week of spring break training in Florida, the Yale women's sailing team will compete at St. Mary's College of Maryland next weekend.
