NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale coed sailing team qualified for the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals over the weekend. The Round 1A qualifier was hosted at Yale, where the Bulldogs placed seventh overall.
On Saturday, the wind came out of the west-southwest to southwest and ranged from 6 to 8 knots. There was not enough wind for racing on Sunday. Skipper Morgan Pinckney and crew Annabel Woodworth placed ninth in the A Division, while skipper Dorothy Mendelblatt and crew Julia Miller placed fourth in the B Division. The Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals will be held at the U.S. Naval Academy from October 18–19.
The women's team placed third at the Stu Nelson, hosted by Connecticut College. On Saturday, the breeze was light from the south and shifted west throughout the day. On Sunday, the wind was also light and came from the south. Skipper Audrey Foley and crew Ashley Highland placed ninth in the A Division, skipper Carly Kieding and crew Sarah Moeder finished third in the B Division, and skipper Elle Sykes and crew Ella Benedetto placed third in the C Division.
Another coed group traveled to Roger Williams for the Sister Esther Trophy. The wind was similarly light in Rhode Island, and only two races were completed in each division on Saturday. Sunday also brought light conditions, but by the afternoon, an ideal 5–7 knots filled in, allowing two more races in each division. Skipper Alexander Adams and crew Margaret Ratzan placed ninth in the A Division, and skipper Clara Diaz Suarez and crew Matilda Twigg finished 14th in the B Division. The team placed 11th overall.
Next weekend, the Bulldogs will compete in the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship at MIT, the Nevins Trophy at King's Point, and the Dave Perry Trophy, hosted by Yale.
