Box Score Dey has productive day at the dish
Bethesda, Maryland – Freshman Griffin Dey went 2-for-4 with a home run, but the Yale baseball team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Georgetown Tuesday at Shirley Povich Field.
Beau Hall lifted the Hoyas to the victory with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.
"Tough one today," Yale head coach John Stuper said. "I thought we swung it well and did some good fundamental things offensively like moving runners over and getting them in."
After the start time was pushed back an hour because of field conditions, Yale (0-8-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame when Harrison White homered to right.
The Hoyas (9-7) tied the game and the two teams exchanged runs, until Yale jumped out to a two-run advantage. Dey homered to left-center field in the sixth and Richard Slenker plated Nate Adams with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to give the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead.
But Georgetown responded with three unanswered runs capped by Hall's walk-off homer.
"Our pitchers walked nine today and three of them scored," Stuper said. "We have what I believe is the best defensive team we've had in a while. They simply must stop walking people. I'm the pitching coach, so that's on me. We simply must do better."
Yale starting pitcher Chris Lanham scattered eight hits over six innings, while allowing two runs and striking out four.
Benny Wanger, Tim DeGraw, Simon Whiteman, Alex Boos and Tom O'Neill all had hits in what was a productive day at the plate for Yale.
The Bulldogs will close out their spring trip on Wednesday at George Washington. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Righthander Chasen Ford (0-1) will take the hill for the Bulldogs. Justin Friedman (0-2) will start for George Washington (6-10).
