Box Score 2 Regularly Scheduled Doubleheader To Follow
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – There will be bonus softball on the final day of the season on Saturday at Dewitt Family Field. Friday's second game of a doubleheader between Yale and Brown in Providence was suspended after 11 innings because of darkness with the score tied at 1-1. It will resumed on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Dewitt Family Field prior to the regularly scheduled doubleheader between the teams.
Brown won Friday's first game 6-2
The second game started at 4:50 p.m. so there figured to be plenty of time to finish. The Bulldogs scored first in the third. Sydney Ginsberg reached second on an error. Brittany Labbadia followed with a bunt single and then stole second to put runners on second and third. Allison Skinner then drove home Ginsberg on a fielder's choice.
The Bears tied it in the fourth on back-to-back from doubles by Ashli Lotz and Christina Andrews.
And that was it for the scoring as Yale's Francesca Casalino and Brown's Gina Chieffallo were dominant in the circle.
Casalino yielded a total of five hits and struck out eight in her 11 innings, while Chieffalo allowed six hits and struck out three.
Sydney Glover had two hits for the Bulldogs.
Yale threatened in the 10th inning when Skinner doubled with two outs but was left stranded.
The two teams combined for nine "1-2-3" half innings from the sixth inning onward.
The Bears (17-21, 6-11 Ivy) seized control of the first game by scoring three times in the third inning and then tacked on single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
Yale's two runs came in seventh when Labbadia singled home Laina Do and Carlin Hagmaier.
Do, Camille Weisenbach and Lauren Delgadillo each had two hits for the Bulldogs (16-30-1, 7-10 Ivy).
Katie Orona pitched a complete game for Brown, striking out eight.
