Jerpbak And Skinner Knock In Runs In Losses At Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Yale's stretch of playing games decided late continued at Army. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, it was the Black Knights who did the last scoring. Mae Wadyka's RBI double in the seventh inning lifted Army to a 2-1 victory in the second game of a non-league doubleheader. The Black Knights won the first game 6-1.

Since the games were originally scheduled for Dewitt Family Field but moved to Army's complex because of the snow in New Haven earlier this week, Yale had the final at bat. And the Bulldogs nearly capitalized in the second game. Laina Do singled to put the tying run on base, but Army pitcher Renee Poirer worked out of the jam.

Both Poirer and Yale's Francesca Casalino were outstanding in the circle. Poirer struck out nine and allowed only three hits. Casalino was nearly as good, striking out six in her seven innings of work.

Army (22-13) scored first in the first inning, and it looked for a while that would be all Poirer would need. Yale, though, finally broke through in the sixth inning when Brittany Labbadia singled, stole second and scored on Allison Skinner's single.

Labbadia's hit was Yale's first of the game.

Army seized control of the first game by scoring five runs in the second inning.

Terra Jerpbak doubled home Sydney Glover to account for the Bulldogs' run in the third inning.

Yale also had a scoring chance in the second when Skinner and Madison Sack both singled but were left stranded.

The Bulldogs (9-19) were limited to five hits in the opener.

Lindsay Efflandt pitched four innings of scoreless relief for Yale.

The Bulldogs committed four errors in the game which led to three unearned runs.

Yale returns to Dewitt Family Field and Ivy League play this weekend. The Bulldogs host doubleheaders against Princeton on Saturday and Cornell on Sunday. The first pitch on both days is slated for 12:30 p.m.
