Bulldogs Take Second

BOSTON, Mass. - The Yale women's sailing team took second at the season opener, the Toni Deutsch Trophy on the Charles River. The Bulldogs finished just six points behind Brown this weekend.

Juniors Casey Klingler and Caroline Colwell placed third in their division, only three points out of the top spot. They sailed particularly well on Sunday after a few challenging races on the first day of the regatta. The pair was focused on starting, particularly positioning on the line and the final acceleration. Klingler commends their improved communication throughout the weekend, an essential skill at such a shifty and puffy venue.

In B division, junior skipper KB Knapp and sophomore crew Kira Woods also placed second, just four points out of first. They led their division for most of the regatta.

Knapp comments, "We focused on being consistent in each race and focusing on the regatta as a whole, instead of taking risks to win individual races. We always tried to cover the fleet if we we were in a good position and play the shifts if we were sailing from behind."

All in all, the Bulldogs started the season strong, and they're sure to be vying for top finishes all year. Next weekend, the team will be competing at Connecticut College at the Stu Nelson.
