Bulldogs Finish Fifth

ST. MARY'S CITY, Mary. - The No. 3 Yale women's sailing team finished fifth at the St. Mary's Women's Interconference Regatta.

On Saturday, the regatta was postponed for several hours as sailors waited for the breeze to fill. The wind was marginal for most of the day. A division finished five races and B division finished only four races on Saturday.

The conditions on Sunday were dramatically different. It was very windy, shifty and unpredictable. Huebner writes, "Today the shifts were really unpredictable and they also came with dramatic changes in velocity and angle. It was important to keep your head out of the boat and be constantly looking for pressure because you could really move up or down in the fleet depending on whether or not you could get onto the right tack in those puffs."

Freshman skipper Louisa Nordstrom and senior crew Isabelle Rossi de Leon struggled in the tricky conditions. Though they had several first place finishes, they ended up in a close ninth place in A division.

In B division, junior duo KB Knapp and Claire Huebner placed 6th in B division. They finished strong, with two bullets and a sixth.

Next weekend, the Bulldogs will compete at the only women's team race of the season, the Duplin.
