As racing concluded in California today, Yale finished second in the 1V event and third in the 2V event. The race serves as the end of spring break. The Bulldogs now head back to New Haven to resume training in preparation for the next race against Brown on March 31.
The 2V began the day in the Grand Final competing for the Sharp Memorial Cup. Crossing the line in 6:10.9 the Elis finished in third behind Northeastern and UC Berkeley. The Berkeley Bears won the event in 6:02.1.
The 1V, racing for the Copley Cup, finished second with a time of 5:52.5. Berkeley won by about a length with a time of 5:50.5. Yale won this event both last year and in 2016.
Despite the losses, the heavies are confident and ready to take on the season.
Sholto Carnegie '18, the 1V stroke man, came off the water in good spirits. He felt the weekend offered "good racing" and conveyed "important lessons to both crews." Additionally, he said that the "squad is in a great place to work with as the season progresses."
While only two boats raced in San Diego, the remainder of the squad trained hard back home on the Housatonic. All boats will line-up next Saturday racing for the Albert Cup.
