NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Six alumni of the Yale heavyweight crew team are set to compete for their respective countries at the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China, from September 21 through September 28.

The Yale rowers and their affiliated countries are:
- Fergus Hamilton '23 - Australia – Coxless Four (4-)
- Marcus Emmett '25 - Australia – Men's Eight (8+)
- Alexander McClean '25 – Australia - Men's Eight (8+)
- Miles Beeson '23 – Great Britain – Men's Eight (8+)
- Harry Geffen '25 - Great Britain – Coxless Pair (2-)
- Syvert Senumstad '25 – Norway – Coxless Pair (2-)Â
The senior World Rowing Championships take place annually at the end of the international rowing season, where World Champions are crowned in 12 Olympic boat classes, six for men and six for women, as well as four international lightweight boat classes. Para-rowers also compete across all five Paralympic boat classes.

The Championships were first held in 1962, with women's events introduced in 1974 and para-rowing added in 2002 at the World Rowing Championships in Seville, Spain.

About the Course
The Shanghai Water Sports Centre, established in August 1983, features two 2,250-meter artificial courses with depths ranging from 3 to 4 meters. Connected to Dianshan Lake, the venue is a modern, fully equipped facility that meets international standards for rowing and canoeing competitions. In preparation for the 2025 World Rowing Championships, the Centre has undergone extensive renovations to enhance the athlete and spectator experience. Upgrades include a newly modernized finish tower, a permanent wave-breaking system, and improved facilities for athlete rest, changing, and showering. Over the years, the venue has welcomed numerous national, regional, and international competitions, most notably the 2018 FISU University Rowing Championships.
