Big Second Inning Leads SHU Over Yale

Box Score

Bulldogs Limited To Four Hits

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Yale ran into one of the hottest teams in the Northeast on Wednesday. Sacred Heart scored seven runs in the second inning en route to an 8-0 victory over the Bulldogs at Pioneer Park. It was SHU's fifth straight victory.

Caroline Kruger homered and knocked in three runs to lead Sacred Heart's attack.

Yale was limited to four hits – singles by Annie Tarte, Carlin Hagmaier, Phylicia Wilkov and Sydney Ginsberg.

The Bulldogs' best scoring chance came in the second inning. Hagmaier led off with an infield single and moved to second on Giovy Webb's sacrifice bunt. Hagamaier was erased on a fielder's choice, but Wilkov followed with a single to put two runners on base. Sacred Heart pitcher Shyanne Fennell, though, retired the next hitter to end the threat.

Three Yale errors in the bottom of the second aided Sacred Heart's outburst.

The Bulldogs were playing their final non-conference game of the season.

Yale returns to 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium to host Brown in a three-game series this weekend. The teams play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. The action begins at 12:30 p.m. on both days. Saturday is Senior Day and Alumni Day. The Bulldogs will honor four seniors prior to the game in front of a large contingent of former players.
