Yale Wins Fifth Straight Carnegie Cup

Defending National Champions Remain Undefeated

ITHACA, NY – Today, the Bulldogs retained the Carnegie Cup for the fifth straight year after a 1V win over Princeton and Cornell. The Yale 1V heads into the EARC Sprints undefeated looking for their fourth straight title.

The 1V won by over a length open over Princeton, with Cornell trailing. Princeton, having lost by two seconds to Harvard last weekend, came out strong but could not stop Yale from pushing out down the course.

The 3V too had a solid performance, beating out Princeton and Cornell. Yale finished with open water over the Tigers with Cornell about 19 seconds behind.

Though all boats were previously undefeated entering this weekend's racing, the Yale 2V and 4V both fell to Princeton.  In the 2V event, Princeton came out strong and managed to just slightly break open over Yale by the line. In the 4V event, Princeton grabbed an early lead and continued to walk away.

The 5V, which did not race last weekend against Columbia and Penn, fell to the Tigers but had a competitive race against Cornell. The Elis were aggressive and successfully fought to keep their bow in front of the Big Red.

After the races, the Carnegie Cup was presented to Yale Captain Paul Jacquot '18. The Cup record now stands at Princeton (38), Cornell (30), and Yale (24).

Today's competition served as the conclusion of the spring dual racing season. The Bulldogs now have three weeks to train in preparation for the championship showdowns. The Elis head to Worcester, MA, on Sunday, May 13, for the EARC Sprints.
