NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Aerial Chavarin has already earned a number of Ivy League and regional accolades this fall. Now, she can add a prestigious national honor to her already very impressive resume. Chavarin was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team. The announcement was made at the College Cup banquet in San Jose, Calif.
It was a remarkable senior season for Chavarin, the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous first team All-Ivy selection. She started all 16 games and played 1,377 minutes. Her eight goals tied for second in the league, and she also was a defensive force, breaking up plays on the ground, winning tackles or picking off passes and winning balls in air.
Earlier this week, it was announced she was invited to play in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association Senior Bowl this Saturday at Merrimack College and earned first team All-East recognition from the United Soccer Coaches.
Chavarin becomes just the third Bulldog to earn All-America recognition and the first since Christina Huang '07 was named to the second team in 2005. Jen Teti '94 was a second team selection in both 1992 and 1993.
Chavarin helped the Bulldogs enjoy their best season on the pitch in 14 years. Yale posted its most victories since 2005 with an 11-4-1 overall record, which included a 6-1-1 home record at Reese Stadium.
