BOSTON, Mass. - The No. 2 Yale Women's Sailing Team competed at the Women's Team Race, hosted by No. 12 Boston University. Racing took place on the Charles River. Saturday had somewhat steady 5-13 knot breeze, which is unusual for the Charles. On Sunday, it went back to its normal, shifty self, and several races had to be abandoned due to dramatic wind shifts.
It was the first time back on the water for the team, as they hadn't had favorable enough conditions to practice. Despite the lack of practice and the below freezing temperatures, Yale came away with a second-place finish. The Elis won 12 of 15 races, losing only once to No. 1 Brown (who won the regatta), and twice to No. 13 University of Rhode Island.
Becca Rose, a junior, spent the weekend crewing for
Megan Grimes, a first year. Becca felt that, "despite the icy conditions and shifty winds, the team showed growth in communication and strategic understanding." It seems that all of the time spent discussing team race strategy during the offseason is paying off.
The women were very pleased with their performance this weekend. "We come away happy with how the weekend went as a whole, and we are excited for the spring season ahead," said first-year skipper,
B Lindsay. They are looking forward to continuing to learn and practice, especially next week at their spring break training session in St. Petersburg, FL.
