NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team has one more weekend to tune up before the start of Ivy League play. The Bulldogs will be in Florida for the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational. Yale faces Penn State and Robert Morris on Friday, Tennessee-Chatanooga and Army on Saturday and Providence on Sunday.
Then, the Ivy season kicks off with a three-game series at Penn starting on Mar. 14.
It's already been a season filled with close games for the Bulldogs (4-6). Six of Yale's 10 games have been decided by two runs or less.
Two Bulldogs were selected to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Monday after strong performances at the Liberty Classic last weekend.
Annie Tarte batted .400 in the four games, while first year
Willa Ferrer belted two home runs, including a game-winning, walk-off blast in a 7-6 victory over Hofstra.
Yale will face challenging opponents in Florida. Penn State (8-12) already has 20 games under its belts. Robert Morris (6-8) has wins over Valparaiso and North Carolina Wilmington on its resume. Tennessee-Chatanooga (5-10) is playing in its fourth tournament of the spring. Army (8-7) won its final three games at the Charleston Invitational last weekend, and Providence (3-7) posted a 13-3 win over Merrimack in its most recent game.
