McMahon Breaks 200 Meter School Record

Libby McMahon (pictured here running the 60 meters) now holds the school record in the 200 meters.

BOSTON, Mass. -- The ECAC Indoor Championships have historically presented the women of the Yale track and field team with great opportunities to run fast times and set final indoor personal records before transitioning to outdoors for the remainder of the school year. This year's championship proved no different, as sophomore Libby McMahon ran a new personal best of 24.46 in the 200 meters, breaking the previous school record by .01 seconds and qualifying into Sunday's finals in the event.

In addition to McMahon's impressive performance in the 200, her fellow sophomore Aliya Boshnak also represented the Bulldogs in the final indoor meet of the 2019-20 season. The winner of the 400 meter dash, St. John's' Leah Anderson, ran a blazing time of 53.87 to beat the rest of the field by more than a second. Boshnak just missed the finals in the 400 meters, running a solid time of 56.62 seconds to finish 12th in the field of 24 athletes from all over the Northeast. Her 12th place finish was just two slots out of a qualifying spot and only .09 seconds out of 10th place, thus putting her in a solid position to head into the outdoor season.

For her own part, McMahon finished sixth in a field of 30 athletes and clinched a spot in the event finals Sunday at 12:45 p.m. est. Full results can be found here.

Yale's previous record, 24.47, was set in 2003.
