COLLEGE STATION, Texas – First-year
Layni Kaase got competition underway for the Yale women's track and field team at the 44 Farms Team Invitational Thursday at Texas A&M's E.B. Cushing Stadium. Competing in the heptathlon, Kaase is in 19th place out of 26 athletes after four events. She has 2979 points. Cincinnati's Juliette Laracuente-Huebner, a second team All-American in this event for the past two years, leads with 3617 points.
Competing in her home state – where she earned three bronze medals in the last two years at the Texas outdoor championships while competing for College Station High School – Kaase began the day with a ninth-place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.34). She followed that with a t-10th place finish in the high jump (1.63m), a 25th place finish in the shot put (8.86m) and a 13th place finish in the 200m (25.72).
The heptathlon long jump, javelin and 800m take place Friday.
