NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale University Athletics invites its student-athletes, alumni, faculty, staff and fans to compete in the first-ever
Handsome Dan Virtual Race during the final months of 2020.
The optional 5K or 10K race is not just for bragging rights as the first 250 fans to log their running times will receive the cherished,
Handsome Dan Medallion.
"During quarantine, I participated in virtual runs as a way to work out, compete and virtually participate in a group activity. With our students, alumni, staff and fans spread throughout the world this term, and knowing how competitive we all are, I thought 'what if we sponsored our own virtual run?' The mental and physical benefits of running/walking are enormous, and we look forward to bringing Yale Nation together; in a socially-distanced setting, as part of the
Handsome Dan Virtual Run," said
Victoria M. "Vicky" Chun, Thomas A. Beckett Yale Director of Athletics.
As soon as the calendar flips to October, the Eli faithful are free to join
Handsome Dan and get out and be part of the #RunningOfTheBulldogs!
Participants are encouraged to submit a screenshot of their distance and time to
yaleathletics@yale.edu. Those finishers will receive the
Handsome Dan Medallion. Please include name, shipping address, social media handles and Yale affiliation (student, alumnus and graduation year, faculty, staff, fan) when emailing results.
Additionally, participants are encouraged to screenshot and post their run on social media all month long, using the hashtag: #RunningOfTheBulldogs.
Last season, Yale women's cross-country star
Kayley Delay '21 won the 2019 Ivy League Championship title with a time 20:45.6 in the 6K race.
