Haddock Named Defensive Player of Year; Six Bulldogs Earn All-Ivy Honors

Haddock brothers, Paolo Carroll named to first team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It was another highly successful season for the Yale men's soccer team, and six Bulldogs who played key roles in that success were honored by the Ivy League. Junior goalkeeper Elian Haddock, who led the league with five shutouts, was named the Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-Ivy. Juniors Jeremy Haddock and Paolo Carroll also were first team selections, sophomore Kahveh Zahiroleslam earned second team recognition and senior Enzo Okpoye and first year TJ Presthus were honorable mention picks.

"Each of these young men had outstanding seasons for us and they would be the first to tell you they couldn't do it without the support of their teammates," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "I always think we deserve more guys on this list but I am very happy and proud of those selected as they are all very deserving."

Elian Haddock, the 2019 first team All-Ivy goalkeeper, had another outstanding season for the Bulldogs. In Ivy games, he led the league in goals against average (0.40), save percentage (.885) and shutouts (4). His top performance came against Cornell, at the time the highest scoring team in the nation. He made six saves against the Big Red, many with a high degree of difficulty, in posting a shutout.

In addition to his success on the pitch, Haddock has excelled in the classroom and was Yale's Academic All-Ivy selection.

Elian's brother Jeremy earned first team honors for the first time in his career. He was an honorable mention selection in 2019. Jeremy started all seven league games and anchored a defense that yielded only three goals. He also contributed two assists.

Carroll, who has now earned All-Ivy honors in each of his three seasons, and Zahiroleslam were two of the top scoring threats in the Ivy League, both finishing with seven goals. Carroll added four assists to lead the Bulldogs with 18 points. He scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Dartmouth and also tallied game-winning goals against UMass Lowell and Boston College. Carroll also scored the tying goal when the Bulldogs earned a 1-1 draw with then No. 3 New Hampshire.

Zahiroleslam, playing his first season, was a four-time Ivy Rookie of the Week selection. In league play, three of his four goals were game winners, including the only goal in a victory over No. 19 Cornell.

Okpoye, a first team All-Ivy selection in 2019, battled through injury to make a significant contribution, appearing in six of seven Ivy games.

Presthus had an immediate impact on Yale's back line. He was the only Bulldog to start all 16 games and played every minute of all 16 games. In addition to stellar defense, he contributed three assists, including one in Ivy play.

The Bulldogs, who posted a 7-5-4 overall record, finished second in the Ivy League at 4-1-2. Yale has now had a winning overall record in each of the last three seasons. The last time Yale posted three-straight winning seasons was 1996 to 1999.
