Nine Bulldogs Set for Tokyo Games

Yalies Rowing in Three Events

TOKYO, Japan – Nine Yale Heavyweight oarsmen are set to compete in this summer's Olympic Games, which have an opening ceremony on July 23.

The nine Bulldogs - three undergraduates and six alumni – compete in three different events and represent five countries on the Sea Forest Waterway.

Four of them will row in eights, including Simon Keenan '15 (Australia), Ollie Wynne-Griffith '17 (Great Britain), Charles Elwes '19 (Great Britain) and Dan Williamson '22 (New Zealand). Men's eight heats are July 25, the repechage on the 28th and the final on the 30th.

Andrin Gulich '22 is a teammate of Paul Jacquot '18 in Switzerland's four, while Sholto Carnegie '18 has a seat in Great Britain's four. They have July 24 heats followed the day after by the repechage and finals on the 28th.

The other Elis in Japan are Jack Lopas '22 (New Zealand), who competes in the pair, and Stephan Riemekasten '17, a spare for Germany. Heats are on July 24 for Lopas, who hopes to avoid the repechage and make the July 27 semifinals with more rest. The A and B finals are on the 29th.
