NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale women's track and field team hosted Columbia and Dartmouth Saturday for the annual YDC tri-meet, the Bulldogs' first scored meet of the season. Yale tallied 56 points, finishing second to the Big Green (78 points).
"We are focused on taking advantage of every opportunity we are given to compete and we did just that," said
David Shoehalter, Yale's Mark T. Young '68 Director of Cross Country and Track and Field. "We showed a hunger and desire that will serve us well as we move forward this season."
Captain
Emma Vasen led by example and was the first person to score points for the Bulldogs. She placed second in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put with great throws of 15.96m and 13.28m respectively. First year
Makayla Harris secured her first-ever points as a Bulldog with a fourth-place finish in the weight throw.
In the long jump two more first years would earn their first points as Bulldogs, as
Dominique Romain earned third with an impressive jump of 5.42m and
Bharathi Subbiah followed in fourth place with a jump of 5.32m. First year

On the track, senior

The Bulldogs would then go on to show dominance in the 500m dash, securing the top three spots and 10 of the available 11 points in play. Junior

Maya Sharp was second in the heat with Friborg and second overall, running a time of 1.16.71, and first year
Arielle Moore earned third place. The strong day for the young Bulldogs would continue as first year
Bridget Vitu and sophomore
Ella Mainwaring Foster placed third and fourth in the 400m dash and sophomore
Kyra Pretre netted three points with a second-place finish in the 800m run.
Friborg returned to secure another W for Yale in the 1000m run, shattering her collegiate best by five seconds with a time of 2:51.48. McMahon showed her dominance as the Yale 200m record holder, running the 200m dash in 24.75s and earning a first-place finish. Sophomore
Kathryn Rodrigues showed a lot of heart and determination with a third-place finish in the 3000m run. In the 4x800m relay, Friborg netted her third win of the day on a team with first year
Iris Bergman, Dvorak and Pretre. Yale won the 4x800m relay by a whopping 21 seconds, completing the race in 9:14.60.
The last event on the track was the 4x400m relay and the Bulldogs ended the day with another first-place finish by running 3:51.59s. The outstanding performances put on by the relay teams highlight the depth Yale has over the middle distances.
