NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The post season honors continue to come in for the Yale football team. Osorachukwu Ifesinachukwu is one of 15 FCS standouts named as a finalist for 2022 FedEx Ground Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
Named after the late school teacher and wife of legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson, the eighth annual award is presented to an FCS student-athlete who excels not only on the playing field and in the classroom, but in the community and beyond.
 
The recipient will be announced on Dec. 12. He will be honored at the FCS National Awards banquet on Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas – on the eve of the national championship game.
 
A biomedical engineering major, Ifesinachukwu boasts a 3.67 GPA and is interested in pursuing a medical degree with a focus on oncology when his football playing days are over.
 
This season he was dominant on Yale's defensive line before suffering an injury. In five games, he had four sacks and five tackles for loss.
 
Off the field, Ifesinachukwu worked as a design aide for Yale's Center for Engineering and Innovative Design, where he helped members maintain safety regulations and provided assistance on projects. He has also worked as a tutor with the Global Teaching Project, a non-profit that helps deliver AP STEM education to students in rural and underserved communities in Mississippi. Looking toward his future career, Ifesinachukwu has served as a lab assistant at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas where he helped conduct research on Ewing's sarcoma cell lines.
