NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The start of the Ivy League season is still nearly two months away for the Yale women's tennis team, but the Bulldogs will get an idea of where they stand at this weekend's ECAC Indoor Championship at Cornell. The field this year consists of the eight Ivy schools. Action gets under way on Friday, and the tournament runs through Sunday.
Yale is the fourth seed and begins play by facing No. 5 Columbia on Friday at 11 a.m. The winner of that match faces the winner of the Princeton-Cornell match on Saturday, while the loser moves into the loser's bracket and also plays again on Saturday.
Princeton is the top seed in the tournament followed by No. 2 Harvard and No. 3 Penn. Brown is seeded sixth, Dartmouth is seventh and Cornell is eighth.
The Bulldogs are coming off a challenging trip to the Midwest last weekend that saw them drop a close, 4-3 decision at Indiana and fall to Notre Dame 6-1 in South Bend. First year
Mirabelle Brettkelly won both of her singles matches on the weekend, including a thrilling three-set win over Notre Dame's Carrie Beckman. In doubles, Yale's duo of
Caroline Dunleavy and
Kathy Wang posted a 7-6 win over Notre Dame's team of Beckman and Julia Andreach.
The championship match of the tournament is set for Sunday at 5 p.m.
