Captain Sei Sets Record and Claims First IC4A Championship in Final Indoor Race

BOSTON -- This weekend the Yale men's track and field team traveled to Boston University for the last indoor track meet of the 2022 season. The annual IC4A Championships determines the members of the All-East team and allows athletes one final shot to perform their best in the indoor arena.

Captain Juma Sei took full advantage of his last chance, breaking Yale's all-time record in 500m dash en route to his first IC4A championship. When asked what motivated him to run through the pain of the 500, Sei said, "I've worked too hard to leave a race feeling like I had more to give; it's going to hurt regardless, but it'll hurt a lot less if I break the record."

Sei set a fantastic example for his team every time he stepped on the track, whether in practice or competition, and the captain finally has his flowers. Sei's time of 1:01.83 is the third-fastest time in Ivy League history, which is remarkable considering this was his first year running the 500m dash.

Among Yale's other competitors Sunday, Stephen Moody finished first for the Bulldogs in the 3000m run, less than half a second off his personal best.

Judging by their performances this weekend, the Bulldogs look ready to improve their standings among their Ivy competitors during the outdoor season.
