NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Rising senior
Andrew Farr (Gorham, Maine) has been elected track and field captain for the 2025-26 season. Farr, who has consistently been a top long sprinter for the Bulldogs, was chosen via a team vote.
"I've been competing as a sprinter in track and field since I was 10 years old," said Farr. "I'll be 22 this fall. What's carried me through the tough workouts, poor performances and injuries is my unwavering belief that hard work pays off… eventually. In many ways, being named the Yale men's track and field captain in my final year as a Bulldog feels like my 'eventually.' What an honor to contribute to the enduring legacy of one of the oldest collegiate track programs in history. I'm especially grateful for my captains —
Jacob Kao '24,
Matt Appel '23 and
Harry Grindle '22 — who have greatly influenced the kind of leader I aspire to be. More than anything I'm excited for the opportunity to help my teammates grow not only as athletes, but as people, and to share the many lessons I've learned along the way to help them get ever closer to their own 'eventually's."
Farr brings a positive attitude to the track and was recently named the recipient of the team's Gardner Millett award for his sportsmanship and inspiration. Combined with his talent and ability, this made Farr a strong choice for captain.
In his time at Yale Farr has overcome adversity in order to succeed on the track and contribute significantly to the program.
Farr began his Yale career well, running 7.02 in the 60 meters and 48.85 seconds in the indoor 400 meters. In his debut season, he was part of the 4x400 meter relay team that placed fifth at the Ivy League Indoor Championships. Outdoors he ran 21.87 seconds in the 200 meters. He again was a vital part of the relay efforts at the Ivy League Championships and set a 400m PR of 48.03 in the open 400 meters.
After a summer of hard work Farr returned with a win in the 4x400 meter relay at the Yale-Dartmouth-Columbia meet as a sophomore. He raced the 500 meters at the IC4A Championships, where he placed fourth in 1:04.24. Outdoors he competed in the in the 400 and 4x400 meter relay at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships.
This most recent season Farr showed his dedication, opening with a massive PR in the 60 meters of 6.84. At the Y-D-C meet, he placed second in the 400 meters. Farr has recently battled back from injury and set a new 100 meter PR of 10.79. He was a vital part of the Bulldogs' Heps squad.
Off the track, Farr is a member of the Unorthojocks, an a cappella group made up exclusively of varsity athletes. Farr also helps the local community by coaching a youth track program.
