NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's track and field team has earned All-Academic Team recognition from the USTFCCCA for 2024-25, and eight Bulldogs have earned All-Academic Athlete honors. The USTFCCCA announced the awards Monday.
Yale's individual honorees were:
In order for a team to be named to the All-Academic list, it must have a grade point average above 3.00 for the season. The Bulldogs finished with a GPA of 3.69.
For an athlete to receive individual honors, for the indoor season they must either have finished ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event; for the outdoor season they must have competed in any round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships or, for the multi-events they must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in the East or top 48 in the West. They must also have completed at least two semesters or three quarters while maintaining at least a 3.25 GPA.
Winslow Atkeson
This is Atkeson's third straight year earning this award. An economics major, he concluded his Yale career with his second appearance at the NCAA East First Round outdoors. His season-best performance in the steeplechase, 8:51.03, ranked No. 8 in the Northeast region. His PR in that event, 8:49.46 in 2024, ranks him fourth all-time at Yale.
A graduate of Thacher School, Atkeson earned Academic All-Ivy League recognition for the 2023 cross country season.
Max Bishop
Bishop made an immediate impact in his first season with the Bulldogs, earning the team's Most Outstanding First-Year Award. His time of 1:50.46 in the 800m at the UCF Black & Gold Challenge in March ranked him second on the team in that event this season. He also had Yale's third-best 1500m time (3:46.58).
During the indoor season, Bishop was part of Yale's victorious distance medley relay team at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. Bishop ran the 800m leg in 1:51.
Bishop is a graduate of St. Paul's School.
Leo Brewer
Brewer, a political science major, was a USTFCCCA All-Academic selection for cross country this past fall. For track and field season, he earned the team's Outstanding Distance Runner Award, breaking the school record in the 5,000m outdoors with his time of 13:50.23 at Raleigh Relays. He placed seventh in that event at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships, and placed 28th overall in the 5K at the NCAA East First Round. Indoors, he set a 3000m PR indoors at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational. He was also part of Yale's Ivy League Champion distance medley relay team (9:45.19) indoors, earning first team All-Ivy League honors. He placed 12th in the 3K at the Ivy Indoor Championships.
Brewer is a graduate of Brighton College.
Brian Di Bassinga
Di Bassinga, a computer science major, earned USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition for the third year in a row. He received Yale's Outstanding Jumper Award for 2024-25. He earned second team All-Ivy League honors with his second-place finish in the triple jump (50'0.5") at the Ivy League Indoor Championships. Outdoors, he won the triple jump at the UConn Dog Fight (49'5").
Di Bassinga is a graduate of Battlefield High School.
Simon Jupp
Jupp, a computer science major, earned first team All-Ivy honors indoors as part of Yale's Ivy League Champion distance medley relay team (9:45.19). He also earned points for Yale in the 500m at that event, placing sixth (1:04.49). This spring, he competed in the 400m and the 4x400m at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships.
Jupp is a graduate of Ridgefield High School.
Owen Karas
Karas, a psychology major, has already racked up numerous honors with one year of his Yale career still to go. This past year, he set four school records:
- 1500m outdoors (3:37.52)
- Mile indoors (3:58.37)
- 3K indoors (7:51.68)
- 5K indoors (13:53.27)
That helped him earn Yale's James Stack '61 Award as MVP for the 2024-25 track and field season. He also earned Yale's Outstanding Middle-Distance Runner Award in track and field for the second straight season. His 1500m time outdoors this year ranked No. 25 nationally. He has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in the 1500m outdoors in each of the last two seasons.
Karas was part of Yale's first-place finish in the distance medley relay at the 2025 Ivy League Indoor Championships (9:37.35), earning first team All-Ivy League recognition in the process. He placed second in the 1500m at the 2025 Ivy League Outdoor Championships (3:43.44) to earn second team All-Ivy in that event.
Karas was named second team CSC Academic All-America this past year. A 2024 USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete for track and field, he is a graduate of St. Charles.
Nathan Lebowitz
Lebowitz qualified for the NCAA East First Round outdoors in the discus throw, placing 38th overall. He had set a PR of 179'5" in that event earlier in the season at the Penn Relays. Indoors, he set a weight throw PR of 56' 7.25" at UConn's Coach Greg Roy-al Rumble, where he placed sixth.
Lebowitz is a graduate of Ponte Vedra High School.
Nolan Recker
Recker, an economics major, earned USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition for the second year in a row. He broke his own record in the weight throw indoors, winning at the Yale-Dartmouth-Columbia meet with a mark of 68'3". He placed third in that event at the Ivy League Indoor Championships. Outdoors, he competed in the discus throw and hammer throw at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships, scoring points for the Bulldogs with his sixth-place finish in the hammer (196'8"). He went on to establish a PR of 197'0" in the hammer at the Princeton Elite Invitational.
Recker is a graduate of Muscatine High School.
