NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale women's track and field team wrapped up the regular season Sunday with stellar performances at home at the Yale Springtime Invitational. The highlight of the meet was the discus throw, where the Bulldogs swept the top five places.
The effort in the discus was led by senior captain
Emma Vasen, who set a personal record in the event with a throw of 49.52m and remains second on Yale's all-time list. Placing behind her in order were first year
Violette Perry, sophomore
Maria Leskovec, first year
Kalei Memmer and sophomore
Bella Bergloff.
In the hammer throw, Vasen doubled back to claim her second win and Leskovec took second. Overall, it was a very successful day for the throws program.
In the field, the Bulldogs had a strong showing with multiple first-place finishes. In the triple jump, sophomore
Bharathi Subbiah led the way as Bulldogs claimed the top three spots. Subbiah and sophomore
Sophie Wright earned personal bests of 11.52m and 11.42, respectively; while junior
Karen Kirunda jumped to a season's best of 11.14m. In the pole vault, sophomore
Eileen Yang leapt to victory with a mark of 3.80m. This ties as the second-best mark of her college career and will give her great confidence going into Heps. In the high jump, sophomore
Abrianna Barrett earned her second win of the season with a mark of 1.60m. The long jump featured a second-place finish of 5.60m by first year
Dominique Romain and a third-place finish by sophomore
Sydney Kunkler in 5.56m. Romain also claimed second in the 100m dash later on, displaying her range of ability.
On the track, sophomore
Sophia Karperos opened up the afternoon with a win and a personal record of 11:41.21 for the 3k steeplechase. Karperos consistently improved in the steeplechase this season and demonstrated a strong work ethic. First year
Kylie Goldfarb had a good day in the 1500m and improved upon her season best to run 4:47.24 for third place. In the 3k, senior
Maddie Ghazarian was able to celebrate her birthday in a special way, as she placed second overall.
In the 400m run, first year
Bridget Vitu cruised to victory with a personal record time of 57.12. Shortly behind her in third place was sophomore
Ella Mainwaring Foster. Mainwaring Foster then doubled back to set a personal record in the 200m dash with a time of 25.11. In the 100m, sophomore
Mira Thakur produced an impressive mark of 12.49 to make her collegiate debut in the event and take third overall.
Today's performances greatly demonstrated the hard work and dedication put in by the Bulldogs over the season. They will be competing again next weekend at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships to be held at Yale's Dewitt Cuyler Complex.
